CHL graduates compete in All-Star festivities

24 CHL GRADS ATTEND NHL ALL-STAR WEEKEND
A total of 24 CHL graduates attended the 2016 NHL All-Star Weekend in Nashville.
Corey Perry’s lone goal 3:38 into the second period led the Pacific Division to a 1-0 championship victory over the Atlantic Division in Sunday’s All-Star 3-on-3 Tournament.
The first tournament of its kind on NHL All-Star Weekend, each division iced a 3-on-3 squad, with the Atlantic Division defeating the Metropolitan Division 4-3 to begin the day followed by a 9-6 Pacific Division victory over the Central Division that led to an Atlantic/Pacific final.
A pair of CHL graduates stood out in Saturday’s NHL All-Star Skills Competition, with John Tavares (Oshawa/London) taking the accuracy shooting contest while big blueliner Shea Weber (Kelowna) claimed the hardest shot at 108.1mph, just shy of his 108.5mph mark achieved last year in Columbus.

30 CHL GRADUATES COMPETE IN 2016 AHL ALL-STAR CLASSIC
Eight CHL graduates won the AHL’s All-Star Challenge with the Central Division on Monday in Syracuse, NY.
A total of 30 CHL grads participated in the 2016 AHL All-Star Classic, with Frederick Gaudreau (Shawinigan/Drummondville) collecting three assists while Michael Leighton (Windsor) recorded a nine save shutout to lead the Central Division to a 4-0 championship win over the Atlantic Division.
Central Division defenceman Xavier Ouellet (Montreal, Blainville-Boisbriand) and Atlantic Division winger Rob Schremp (London) finished tied for second in tournament scoring with two goals and two assists each.
Somewhat mirroring the NHL All-Star format, the AHL switched to a hybrid 4-on-4 for the first half, 3-on-3 for the second half of games layout.
Goaltender Eric Comrie (Tri-City) shone in the AHL All-Star Skills Competition on Sunday, turning aside 17 of the 19 shots he faced to lead the Western Conference to a 19-14 win. Comrie made saves on 9 of 10 shots he faced in the AHL Live Rapid Fire event, all three shots he faced in the U.S. Army Pass and Score and five of six in the Panasonic Breakaway Relay.
Rookie defenceman Ryan Graves (P.E.I./Charlottetown/Val-d’Or/Quebec) won the Hardest Shot contest with a blast of 103.4mph.
Providence Bruins forward Alexander Khokhlachev won his heat in the Puck Control Relay for the Eastern Conference.
