World Under-17 Hockey Challenge – Day 3 Recap
All three Canadian squads were in action Tuesday at the 2019 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge:
United States 4 vs. Canada Black 5 (OT)
Canada Black now stands 3-0 at the 2019 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge following Tuesday’s overtime thriller against the United States.
Leading the way for the Great White North was Quebec Remparts forward James Malatesta, while also chipping in offensively was Flint Firebirds forward Brennan Othmann and Guelph Storm rookie Danny Zhilkin. Playing the overtime hero was exceptional Shane Wright of the Kingston Frontenacs, who netted the game winner at the 3:20 mark of the extra frame.
Canada Black now advances to the quarterfinal Thursday against Team Russia.
Finland 2 vs. Canada Red 7
Canada Red has punched its ticket to the quarterfinal at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge following Tuesday’s big win over Finland.
Shining for Canada Red was Quebec Remparts first-year Nathan Gaucher, who wrapped up the night with four points counting two goals and two assists, while the squad also drew goals from Zachary Bolduc of the Rimouski Oceanic, who had a pair, as well as Logan Stankoven of the Kamloops Blazers, Wyatt Johnston of the Windsor Spitfires, and Conner Roulette of the Seattle Thunderbirds, who added an empty netter.
Canada Red returns to the ice Thursday for a quarterfinal date with Canada White.
Czech Republic 0 vs. Canada White 3
In coming up perfect against the Czech Republic, Canada White will now advance to the quarterfinal at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.
Guiding the squad to victory was Prince George Cougars netminder Tyler Brennan who turned aside all 23 shots en route to the victory, while pushing the pace offensively for Canada White was Edmonton Oil Kings forward Dylan Guenther, who capitalized with two special team markers, with one coming shorthanded and the second on the power play, while Medicine Hat Tigers forward Cole Sillinger got on the board early in the final frame to cap the 3-0 victory.
