CHL to NHL: former Sherbrooke captain Parent debuts with Devils
Former Halifax Mooseheads and Sherbrooke Phoenix captain Xavier Parent made his NHL debut with the New Jersey Devils Thursday night.
In an 8-4 loss to Tampa Bay, Parent played 9:42 and recorded one hit.
Parent was the fourth overall pick in the 2017 QMJHL Draft by Halifax and spent his first two seasons with the club where he made 130 appearances. He was traded to Sherbrooke ahead of the 2019-20 campaign and spent his final three seasons there where he recorded 152 points in 114 games.
In his final season – where he captained the Phoenix – Parent starred where he finished fourth in QMJHL scoring with 109 points as well as in goals with 51.
As a pro, the 24-year-old has played 166 games the AHL’s Utica Comets and also made 50 ECHL appearances with Adirondack Thunder.
Internationally, Parent won gold with Canada at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Parent was undrafted into the NHL but signed his entry-level contract with the club in March.
