2025 4 Nations Face-Off updates
A total of 30 CHL alumni suited up for their country at the 4 Nations Face-Off for Canada, USA, Finland, and Sweden.
Final (Feb. 20) – Canada 3-2 USA (OT)
Connor McDavid (Erie Otters / OHL) scored at 8:18 in overtime to give Canada a 3-2 OT victory over the United States in the championship game of the inaugural 4 Nations Face-Off. McDavid got the puck from Mitch Marner (London Knights / OHL) at the left hash marks with no one around him and shot it into the far corner to give Canada the win.
Nathan MacKinnon (Halifax Mooseheads / QMJHL) and Sam Bennett (Kingston Frontenacs / OHL) tallied Canada’s other two goals, Marner had two assists, and Jordan Binnington (Owen Sound Attack / OHL) made 31 saves for Canada, including six in overtime.
McDavid was named the Player of the Game, while MacKinnon was announced as the MVP of the 4 Nations Face-Off. With four goals in four games, MacKinnon led all goal scorers during the tournament, and the reigning NHL MVP finished one point behind Team Canada’s scoring leaders, which were McDavid (3G-2A) and Rimouski Océanic alumnus Sidney Crosby (1G-4A).

With their victory at the 4 Nations Face-Off, Canada earned its seventh championship title at their ninth appearance at an NHL International Tournament.
While 20 CHL graduates took to the ice during Thursday’s championship game, a total of 30 CHL alumni (see complete list of players below) represented their country at this new event held by the NHL and the NHLPA. The 30 CHL graduates represented nearly 30% of all the players competing at the 4 Nations Face-Off – the most of any development hockey league in the world.

Game 6 (Feb. 17) – Sweden 2-1 USA
Rasmus Andersson (Barrie Colts / OHL) had a game-high five shot blocks as Sweden beat the USA 2-1 to close out its participation at the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Sweden placed third and outside the top two despite having zero regulation defeats (1-0-2-0). Ultimately, the Swedes wrapped up their tournament with five points, which was the same as Canada, however, their opening night loss to the Canadians was the deciding factor that sent Canada to the final.
Meanwhile, despite the loss on Monday night, Matthew Tkachuk (London Knights / OHL), J.T. Miller (Plymouth Whalers / OHL), Vincent Trocheck (Saginaw Spirit / OHL), and the USA finished at the top of the table and will next face Canada in Thursday’s final.
Specifically, the USA will face off against its Canadian rivals in that championship game at TD Garden this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET and it can be seen live on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports.
"Stanley Cup, Game 7 aside, this is probably the biggest game we've all played up until this point."

Game 5 (Feb. 17) – Canada 5-3 Finland
Nathan MacKinnon (Halifax Mooseheads / QMJHL) scored a pair while Sam Reinhart (Kootenay ICE / WHL) led the team in scoring with three points (0G-3A) as Canada held on to defeat Finland 5-3.
Connor McDavid (Erie Otters / OHL), Brayden Point (Moose Jaw Warriors / WHL), and Sidney Crosby (Rimouski Océanic / QMJHL) were the other Canadian goal scorers.
Heading into Thursday’s final, Crosby sits tied for the tournament-scoring lead with five points (1G-4A), while MacKinnon shares the 4 Nations Face-Off goal-scoring lead as he has three goals in three games.
Canada and the USA will meet to decide the champion of a best-on-best men’s international tournament for the first time since the 2010 Winter Olympic Games. Thursday’s 4 Nations Face-Off final at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN, ESPN+, Sportsnet, and TVA Sports will mark the fifth time the two countries will clash in a championship/gold medal game at an NHL International Tournament or Olympics (CAN: 3-1).

Game 4 (Feb. 15) – USA 3-1 Canada
Connor McDavid (Erie Otters / OHL) tallied his country’s lone goal as Canada fell to the USA 3-1. McDavid’s goal was his first goal for Canada in a best-on-best competition, and his first for his country since the 2018 World Championship.
By registering the secondary assist on McDavid’s goal, Jordan Binnington (Owen Sound Attack / OHL) became the sixth goaltender to record an assist in an NHL International Tournament game.
In the absence of Cale Makar, Thomas Harley (Mississauga Steelheads / OHL) made his first appearance for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off. The game marked the first time Harley had represented his country since the 2021 World Junior Championship and it made Harley (23 years, 180 days) the youngest defenseman to play for Canada at an NHL International Tournament since 20-year-old and WHL alumnus Jay Bouwmeester (Medicine Hat Tigers / WHL) did so in the 2004 World Cup of Hockey.
With their regulation victory, USA clinched first place in the round-robin portion of the tournament and secured a spot in the 4 Nations Face-Off final – as the event shifts to Boston for the three remaining games.
