About the WHL
The Western Hockey League started with just seven teams based in therprovinces of Saskatchewan and Albert in 1966. The WHL now hasrrepresentation in all four Western Canadian provinces and the U.S.rstates of Oregon and Washington. With the addition of the Edmonton OilrKings for the 2007-08 season, the WHL now consists of 22 member Clubsrwith 17 based in Canadian markets and 5 in the U.S. Pacific Northwest.

rThe WHL is a member of the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) whosermembership is comprised of three major junior hockey leagues: OntariorHockey League (OHL), Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) and therWestern Hockey League (WHL). At the conclusion of each League’srplayoffs, the CHL hosts the Mastercard Memorial Cup. A NationalrChampionship tournament involving each of the League’s Champion and thertournament host.

rThe Western Hockey League’s Head Office is located in Calgary, Albertarand is responsible to administer all functions related to Leagueroperations. Under the direction of the WHL Commissioner, the WHL HeadrOffice functions include: game supervision, scheduling, Leaguermeetings, player drafts, agreements and scholarships, playerrtransactions, finance, marketing, media relations, communications andrstatistics/results.
