Bulls’ Malcolm Subban Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Malcolm Subban of the Belleville Bulls is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the playoff week ending April 14 with a perfect 2-0 record posting two shutouts with a goals-against-average of 0.00 and save percentage of 1.000.

 

Subban backstopped the Bulls to a 4-0 series win over the Sudbury Wolves in the OHL’s Eastern Conference Semi-Finals earning back-to-back shutouts to close out the series last week.  He made 28 saves and earned first star honours in the 4-0 Bulls’ victory in Game 3 last Tuesday night, then stopped 27 shots and was named second star of the 5-0 Game 4 contest on Thursday.  The Bulls will now face the Barrie Colts in the Eastern Conference Championship Series beginning Friday night. 

 

Subban, a 19-year-old from Rexdale, ON, is playing in his third full OHL season with the Bulls.  A first round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2012 NHL Draft, Subban has an 8-2-0-0 record so far in the 2013 OHL Playoffs and leads the league with three shutout victories along with a goals-against-average of 1.31 and save percentage of .951. 

 

Also considered for the award this week was Étienne Marcoux of the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada with two wins including a shutout victory posting a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .980 in the final two games of a 4-0 series win over the Val-d’Or Foreurs.  In the WHL, Mac Carruth set a new league record for career playoff wins with 41 after going 2-0 with a shutout victory recording a goals-against-average of 0.50 and save percentage of .982 for the Portland Winterhawks in the final two games of their 4-0 series win over the Spokane Chiefs.
