FEHR’S NEW BOOK HITS BWK TEAM STORE
Brandon, MB. –– Not only is former Wheat King and Western Hockey League Player of the Year Eric Fehr of the Washington Capitals kicking off the 2014-15 National Hockey League season Thursday night, his new children’s book has hit store shelves in both the U.S. capital and at the BWK Team Store located at Brandon’s Keystone Centre.
A 29-year old Winkler product, Fehr has authorted a children’s book “The Bulliest Dozer” with Pamela Duncan Edwards in an effort to raise money for bullying prevention.
The children’s story is about a bullying bulldozer and the idea came to him several years ago, first in the form of the title. Then he started working on story lines and finally partnered with Edwards, an author known for her aliteration whose titles include “Clara Caterpillar,” “Road! A Noisy Counting Book” and “Some Smug Slug.”
Fehr, who played from 2001 to 2005 in Brandon and was chosen the WHL’s Player of the Year during his final season, says that bullying is an issue that he feels strongly about. He hopes to encourage positive behavior and has worked this past year to make his vision become a reality.
“It’s about a bulldozer, all machines going to school, who’s a bit of a bully at school,” says Fehr, who scored 146 goals and 277 points during his four year Wheat King career. “And he learns that it’s not what he wants to do at the end. A pretty good story line I think.”
Cost of the book is $10 plus GST, with full proceeds going to both U.S. and Canadian charities. In Canada, all proceeds will benefit the Canadian Red Cross.
The Canadian Red Cross provides a variety of violence, bullying and abuse prevention programs for schools, at home and in the workplace.
While the BWK Team Store is open during all Wheat Kings’ home games, fans are encouraged to come by during regular business hours throughout the week.
Fehr was the Capitals’ first round draft choice (18th overall) in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
The Capitals opened up the new season Thursday against the visiting Montreal Canadiens at Vertizon Center.
