Prospect Allard Signs Scholarship and Development Agreement With Wheat Kings
Before the exhibition schedule had wrapped up in 2023, four members of the Brandon Wheat Kings’ 2023 draft class had signed their WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements with the team. During the season, they signed a fifth, and today, the team announced they’ve signed another player from that draft class.
Defenseman Cameron Allard has signed his Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Wheat Kings. Originally an 8th round pick, 160th overall, Allard played his first season of U18 AAA hockey in Saskatchewan with the Estevan Bears.
“Cameron had a great year with Estevan in the Saskatchewan U18 AAA league,” said Wheat Kings Head Coach and GM Marty Murray. “He led the league in ‘08 D scoring and really rounded out his game. We like that he can make a good first pass and has poise with the puck. We are excited about his progress and we believe he’s just scratching the surface on what he could become.”
As Murray mentioned, Allard got out to an excellent start to his U18 career, leading all defensemen his age with 27 points in 44 games. He is listed at 6-foot-1 and 161 pounds, and the Wheat Kings are eager to see how he’s grown (literally and otherwise) at camp this fall.
“Here’s a kid we took in the eighth round, our third defenseman taken,” said Wheat Kings Director of Player Personnel Chris Moulton. “He goes in and he leads Saskatchewan in defenseman scoring for all 15-year-olds. And there were some high-profile defenseman in Saskatchewan and Cam led that league. He is a massively improved kid that had an amazing year and has leapfrogged so many kids in his age group.”
Allard becomes the sixth member of his draft class to sign a WHL Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Wheat Kings, joining Jaxon Jacobson, Giorgos Pantelas, Nigel Boehm, Isaac Davies, and Dylan McFadyen. Jacobson and Pantelas made their WHL debuts in 2023-24, while McFadyen served as an emergency backup on several occasions.
