Pickard Named To Team Canada U-18 Team
PICKARD NAMED TO TEAM CANADA U-18 TEAM
Under-18 World Championship takes place in Belarus in April
KENT — The Seattle Thunderbirds are pleased to announce goalie Calvin Pickard have been named to Team Canada for the Under-18 World Championships in Belarus from April 13 to April 23.
Pickard just finished his second season with the T-Birds. He appeared in 62 games this season and had a goals against average of 3.09 and a save percentage of .914. Pickard finished the season with a 16-34-7-5 record with three shutouts. He is currently the number one ranked North Americans goalie by NHL Central Scouting for the 2010 NHL Draft.
Pickard is the Western Conference finalist for the WHL Goaltender of the Year Award. Martin Jones of the Calgary Hitmen is the Eastern Conference finalist for the award.
The Under-18 World Championship is a 10-team tournament. Team Canada is in Group A with the United States, Switzerland, Sweden and Belarus. Group B is comprised of Czech Republic, Finland, Latvia, Slovakia and Russia. All games will take place in Minsk and Bobruisk, Belarus.
T-Birds head coach Rob Sumner was named an assistant coach for Team Canada at the U-18 World Championship on March 16.
