EVERETT, Wash. – The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), two-time Western Conference champions and six time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, and general manager Garry Davidson announced today that Harry Mahood has been named Silvertips assistant coach, joining the staff of WHL Western Conference coach of the year Dennis Williams. Mahood joins assistant coach Louis Mass, hired today, on the Silvertips coaching staff for the 2018-19 season.
Mahood joins the Silvertips coaching staff with 20 years of experience behind the bench, most recently with the Bloomington Thunder (USHL) in 2014-15 when he was an assistant under Williams. As an assistant coach, he also worked with Williams to lead the Amarillo Bulls to a Robertson Cup title in 2012-13 and additionally has 13 seasons as a head coach in the United States and in Europe.

Mahood’s has worked the past three seasons of his coaching career on the bench with Williams, most recently in Bloomington when the Thunder finished a USHL expansion season of 2014-15 over the .500 mark in points percentage, at 29-24-7. Previously, Mahood worked on Williams’ bench with the Amarillo Bulls (NAHL) from 2012-14, when Amarillo combined for a record of 86-21-23, goal differential of +217, and earned a Robertson Cup title.
With Mahood in Amarillo for both seasons, the Bulls finished as the league leader or second in goals scored and earned back-to-back South Division titles. He served as assistant coach from 2009-11 and associate head coach in 2011-12 with the Topeka RoadRunners (NAHL), helping the franchise capture a pair of South Division titles, a President’s Cup in 2011 and role as host of the Robertson Cup. While Mahood was in Topeka, he helped develop nearly 40 players for advancement onto the NCAA level.
Mahood led the Phoenix Polar Bears (WSHL) for ten seasons as general manager and head coach from 1999-2009, leading the program to a national championship in 2003, silver medal finish in 2002, and helping over 160 players advance to higher levels of hockey. He earned his start of his coaching career in Germany with TuS Geretsried (1995-97) and served as a consultant with the Phoenix Coyotes from 1998-99.
The native of Thompson, Manitoba is a former forward with four years (1979-83) of playing experience in the WHL, suiting up in 202 career games with Nanaimo, Billings, Spokane, and Great Falls with 238 points (102g-136a) and 232 penalty minutes. He skated for four seasons (1983-87) with the Univ. of Manitona (CIAU) and played professionally for four seasons with TuS Geretsried, additionally earning a free agent contract with the Calgary Flames.
2018-19 SCHEDULE, TICKET INFORMATION
The Silvertips open the 2018-19 pre-season schedule with the Delta Hotels Preseason Classic in downtown Everett, starting Friday, Aug. 31 in a 7:00 p.m. game against the Tri-City Americans. Ticket packages and tickets for all nine games of the Delta Hotels Preseason Classic, starting each day with an 11:30am game, will be on sale soon. The 16th season of Silvertips hockey opens Sept. 21 in Vancouver at 7:35 p.m., and the Tips return home the next night for their 7:05 p.m. home opener against the Giants at Angel of the Winds Arena.
