WEDNESDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP
WHEAT KINGS KNOCK DOWN RAIDERS – Richard Nejezchleb and Jens Meilleur each scored their 11th goals of the season to lead the Brandon Wheat Kings to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Prince Albert Raiders in Western Hockey League action on Wednesday.
Jason Swyripa and Colton Waltz also found the net for the Wheat Kings (23-39-4-4), who snap a three-game losing slide and a four-game losing skid at home. Corbin Boes turned aside 25 of 26 shots he faced to record his 12th win of the season.
Jonas Knutsen scored his 10th goal of the season for the Raiders (35-28-3-4), who see their losing streak hit six games and remain two points up on Swift Current for fifth place in the Eastern Conference. Luke Siemens stopped 30 of 34 shots fired his way in the setback.
HURRICANES 4, ICE 2
Tyler Wong and Jamal Watson each tallied a goal and an assist to pace the Lethbridge Hurricanes to a 4-2 victory over the visiting Kootenay Ice on Wednesday.
Graham Hood and Lenny Hackman also scored for the Hurricanes (27-33-3-7), who broke a 2-2 tie with two goals 3:28 apart in the third period as they earn the split in their home-and-home set versus the Ice. Christopher Tai made 27 saves to post the victory.
Luke Philp and Sam Reinhart scored and Jagger Dirk had two assists for the Ice (34-34-2-0), who locked up the final playoff spot with their win over the ‘Canes on Tuesday in Cranbrook. Wyatt Hoflin made 34 saves in a losing cause in his first start since January 30th.
