Three ‘Tips on Early NHL Draft Watch List
EVERETT – NHL Central Scouting has released its preliminary list of players to watch for the 2015 NHL Draft, a list which includes Silvertips defensemen Noah Juulsen, Kevin Davis and Carter Cochrane. A total of 39 Western Hockey League skaters and three WHL goaltenders made the early list.
Juulsen and Cochrane were both included on the NHL Draft Futures List submitted by Central Scouting over the summer, while Davis was added to the preliminary ranks and should see his stock continue to rise this season. All three players are draft-eligible for the first time in 2015.
NHL Central Scouting identifies players with a rating system that includes four ratings. The ‘A’ rating indicates a 1st Round candidate, a ‘B’ rating indicates a 2nd/3rd Round candidate, and a ‘C’ rating indicates a 4th/5th/6th Round candidate. An ‘LV’ rating indicates Limited Viewing of injured players who have not had sufficient viewings to be categorized. Juulsen was rated as a ‘B’ skater in the preliminary rankings, while Cochrane and Davis were rated in the ‘C’ category.
Five WHL players were assigned an ‘A’ rating, including Mathew Barzal of the Seattle Thunderbirds, Paul Bittner of the Portland Winterhawks, Brandon Carlo of the Tri-City Americans, Jansen Harkins of the Prince George Cougars and 2013-14 WHL Rookie of the Year Nick Merkley of the Kelowna Rockets. In addition, 13 WHL skaters were assigned ‘B’ ratings while 21 WHL skaters were given ‘C’ ratings.
Three WHL goaltenders appear on the list, including Taz Burman of the Red Deer Rebels, Nick McBride of the Prince Albert Raiders and Jordan Papirny of the Brandon Wheat Kings. All three WHL goaltenders were assigned ‘C’ ratings.
