Silvertips to Visit Providence Medical Center
EVERETT, WA – The Everett Silvertips made a special appearance at the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership and Providence Regional Medical Center Everett on Friday, September 30 to help promote our upcoming 2011-12 “Pink the Rink” effort, which helps local women in need get free mammograms. During the appearance, the Silvertips met with patients, talked with family members and interacted with hospital staff.
The visit included stops at many of the state-of-the-art treatment facilities at Providence, including the Cancer Partnership, the inpatient oncology floor and the new Providence Cymbaluk Tower. The players and coaches stopped by patients’ rooms to say hello, sign autographs, pose for pictures and generally offer encouragement to patients in all their individual battles.
Pink the Rink is a cooperative effort between the Silvertips, the Providence Regional Cancer Partnership and the Providence Comprehensive Breast Center to raise funds that provide free mammograms and other related services for local women with no insurance or no means to pay. A portion of every ticket sold to our Pink the Rink game on Friday, October 21 against the Seattle Thunderbirds will be donated to the Providence General Foundation to support this cause. Also being donated are the proceeds from an auction of the game-worn & signed pink jerseys the players will wear against the Thunderbirds!
Also included in the price of every ticket is also a free “I Pinked the Rink” t-shirt to help show support of breast cancer awareness. Silvertips fans helped raised over $38,000 to help fight breast cancer last season, bringing the two-year total to more than $51,000!
