Silvertips Announce Tournament Roster
EVERETT – The Everett Silvertips today announced their roster to open the 2013 WHL exhibition season, which begins this weekend with the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic at Comcast Arena. The Silvertips will be joined by the four other US Division clubs and the Victoria Royals of the BC Division for nine games over Labor Day weekend in downtown Everett.
Everett’s roster for the tournament includes a total of 29 players: 17 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders. 18 of the 29 are returners from last year’s Silvertips, with another five players (Nik Amundrud, Kevin Davis, Matt Fonteyne, Noah Juulsen and Kyle Raymond) suiting up for short stints with the club a season ago. Newcomers currently with the ‘Tips include Import Draft selections Waltteri Hopponen and Ivan Nikolishin, newly-acquired overage defenseman Matt Pufahl, listed forward Linden Penner, defenseman Lucas Skrumeda and 2012 Bantam Draft pick Patrick Bajkov.

Edmonton Oilers signee and 1994-born forward Jujhar Khaira has spent this week practicing with the Silvertips, but will not participate in this weekend’s tournament before attending Oilers training camp. Five other ‘Tips will depart Everett to join NHL training camps after participating in this weekend’s games.
Seven players who have practiced with the ‘Tips after Sunday’s Green-Grey intrasquad game have since been reassigned: forwards Tyson Jost (born 1998) and Nick White (96), defensemen Alex Astasiewicz (98), Arsh Shergill (97), Ryan Warner (98) and Jordan Wharrie (97) and goaltender Carter Hart (98).
The Silvertips begin their 2013 preseason docket Friday night against the Victoria Royals. Everett then faces Spokane on Saturday and Portland on Sunday, with each of the three games starting at 7:00 pm.
