“Saskatoon Platoon” Line Lifts ‘Tips Over Portland
EVERETT – The forward line of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan natives Carson Stadnyk, Kohl Bauml and Dawson Leedahl accounted for all four Everett goals, including the overtime winner by Stadnyk, as the Silvertips earned a hard fought 4-3 overtime victory over the Portland Winterhawks Sunday evening at XFINITY Arena. The ‘Tips gain a crucial point in the race for first in the U.S. Division and now lead the ‘Hawks by six points with one game in hand.
With two goals and three points on the night, Kohl Bauml surpassed 150 points in his WHL career. Carson Stadnyk picked up three assists in addition to the game-winning goal, while Dawson Leedahl had a goal and an assist and Noah Juulsen tallied two helpers. Goaltender Carter Hart (11-4-2-0) turned away 30 of 33 shots faced as the Silvertips fired a season-high 49 shots on goal to finish with a 49-33 edge on the shot clock.
Everett got the start they needed, scoring early in the first to set the tone of the period. Carson Stadnyk found Dawson Leedahl in front to open the scoring and give the ‘Tips a 1-0 lead at 2:30. The Silvertips took the only two penalties of the frame, but successfully killed off both to maintain their lead. In the final minute of the period, Stadnyk made a play along the boards and connected with Kohl Bauml, who roofed a shot from in tight to extend Everett’s lead to two.
The Silvertips went on the man-advantage for the first time to start the second, but couldn’t find the back of the net despite multiple scoring chances. Oliver Bjorkstrand got Portland on the board midway through the period to cut the ‘Tips lead in half. With the Winterhawks back on the powerplay, a centering pass caromed off a body in front of the Everett net and in to tie the game at two. The ‘Tips had two more powerplays to end the second, but the game remained tied with Everett ahead 35-21 on the shot clock.
After successfully killing off another penalty, the Silvertips took a 3-2 lead during a powerplay of their own. With a 5-on-3 man-advantage, Kohl Bauml picked up the rebound of a Noah Juulsen shot at the side of the net and scored his second of the night. The Winterhawks pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker and tied the game with 32 seconds left to force overtime. Juulsen walked into the slot to help create the game-winning play as Stadnyk lifted the puck on his backhand over the shoulder of Portland goaltender Adin Hill for a 4-3 ‘Tips victory.
Hill (20-8-1-0) stopped 45 of 49 shots faced in net for Portland. The ‘Tips were 1 for 5 on the powerplay, while the Winterhawks went 1 for 4.

Everett is at home for three games next week, beginning Wednesday Feb. 11th against Tri-City before hosting Vancouver on Friday and finishing with rivals the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday.
