MONDAY’S WHL ROUND-UP
CHIEFS TOPPLE WINTERHAWKS – Todd Fiddler scored three goals to lead the visiting Spokane Chiefs to a 5-2 win over the Portland Winterhawks in the lone Western Hockey League contest on Monday.
Mike Aviani scored twice and Mitch Holmberg drew a pair of assists for the Chiefs (29-16-2-0), who snap a three-game losing skid while handing the Hawks just their fourth regulation loss at home all season. Eric Williams stopped 33 of 35 shots he faced to post the victory.
Ty Rattie – with his 21st of the season – and Preston Kopeck scored for the Winterhawks (37-7-1-1), who suffer their third loss in a row and remain five points ahead of Kelowna for first place in the Western Conference and overall WHL standings. Mac Carruth made 33 saves in the defeat.
