Green Tops Grey in Tight Intrasquad Game
EVERETT – Team Green edged Team Grey by a final score of 3-1 in the annual intrasquad Game to conclude Everett Silvertips Training Camp Sunday afternoon at the Comcast Community Ice Rink. The Silvertips will now prepare to open their exhibition schedule next weekend in the Holiday Inn Preseason Classic Tournament at Comcast Arena.
Following four days of training camp practices and scrimmages, the Silvertips trimmed the camp roster down to two teams for the Green vs. Grey Game. While a number of Everett’s returning veterans sat out the intrasquad game, many roster hopefuls used the contest as one last opportunity to prove themselves.
The game was scoreless after 20 minutes before Carson Stadnyk gave Grey a 1-0 lead early in the second. Ben Betker and Kyle Raymond assisted on the play and Grey took the one-goal advantage into the locker room.
Green evened things up in the third period as Taylor Sanheim fired a wrister into the top corner from Lucas Grayson and Cole MacDonald. With the score tied at one and just 3:10 left in regulation, Zach McPhee blasted home a pass from Stathis Soumelidis to put Green ahead. McPhee tacked on the empty-net goal in the final minute to give Green the 3-1 win.
Troy Trombley stopped 19 of 20 shots in the first 30 minutes for Green before Mario Petit came in to stop all 12 shots he faced. Nik Amundrud was a perfect 18-for-18 playing half the game for Grey, with Blake Pearson making 15 saves on 17 shots in the second half. Team Green outshot Team Grey 36-32.
The Silvertips will now open their preseason schedule in the annual Holiday Inn Preseason Classic tournament over Labor Day weekend. Everett will face Tri-City at 7:00 pm Friday, Spokane at 7:00 pm Saturday and Portland at 5:00 pm on Sunday. Early games in the tournament will see Portland take on Seattle Friday at 3:00 pm, Tri-City battle Portland Saturday at 3:00 pm and Spokane face-off against Seattle Sunday at 1:00 pm.
