GAME RECAP: Metzger shuts down the shootout, Tips best Chiefs 2-1
EVERETT, Wash. — The extra time heroics at home continued for the Everett Silvertips Saturday night, as Tim Metzger slammed the door in the shootout for a 2-1 victory over the Spokane Chiefs.
Brayden Crampton scored the first goal of the game at 7:11 in the first period, lifting a wrist shot over the shoulder of Metzger for his second goal of the season.
Everett evened the score at 7:08 in the third period, tapping in a powerplay rebound for his 35th goal of the season.
Though both teams had a powerplay in the overtime period, neither could capitalize, sending the game into a shootout. Austin Roest scored for the Silvertips against Cooper Michaluk, with Metzger turning aside all three attempts for a 2-1 victory.
Metzger saved 32 of 33 in regulation plus overtime for the win, his fourth of the season. Cooper Michaluk turned aside 37 of 38 in the shootout loss.
