TIPS WIN // Hard. Fought. Victory.
By Ian McNaughton – Silvertips staff writer
EVERETT, Wash. – Three games in three nights are never easy for a team. But the Everett Silvertips finished their consecutive game the right way, pulling out a 4-3 shootout victory over the Spokane Chiefs at AOTW Arena to secure five points in three nights. Gage Goncalves scored in regulation and the shootout while Keegan Karki made 28 saves to give all 4,590 fans in downtown Everett who attended a reason to leave happy.
For the second time in as many nights, Bryce Kindopp found the back of the night early as he scored one minute into the first period. That gives Kindopp 24 goals on the season, which is the most in the WHL. However, the Chiefs would have an answer as Adam Beckman got his 20th goal of the year on the powerplay two and a half minutes after Kindopp. Spokane would finish the first period ahead of Everett thanks to a Michael King goal after he batted in a Keegan Karki rebound.
UP NEXT: The Tips play once more before the Christmas break as they host the Tri-City Americans on December 18th. In their last meeting on November 24th, Bryce Kindopp scored the game-winning goal in overtime to clinch a 4-3 victory. Everett is 2-1 against Tri-City this season, as this is their third time hosting the Americans this year. Face-off is 7:05pm.

The second period was a physical one, as each team battled for positioning. Keegan Karki made 14 saves in the period, keeping Spokane off the board. Helping Karki out offensively was Jackson Berezowski, who put home a loose puck in front of Chiefs netminder Campbell Arnold to tie the game at two apiece. With the goal, Berezowski broke a 10-game scoring drought as both teams headed to the third.
The Tips got a beauty goal from Gage Goncalves in the third to make it a 3-2 game before Luke Toporowski tied it for Spokane tied it with less than five minutes to go. With the score tied 3-3 after 60 minutes, we were headed for overtime. Although the Tips had four shots on net and the Chiefs had two in the extra frame, overtime solved nothing, and we were headed for a shootout.
Bryce Kindopp would get the first goal in the shootout but, with Jake Christiansen unable to capitalize on his opportunity and an Adam Beckman goal for Spokane, it was up to Goncalves to get the lead. Goncalves pulled off what some would call a “Forsberg-esque” goal against Arnold to give the Tips a 2-1 shootout lead with Keegan Karki needing to make one stop to get the two points. Going against Eli Zummack, Karki shut the door, and the Tips overcame a 2-1 deficit to beat Spokane on home ice.

NOTES: Scratched from the lineup were Braden Holt, Michal Gut, Tyson Phare, Martin Fasko-Rudas (World Juniors), and Jacob Wright … Fonstad’s assist gave him eight points in the last five games … the Tips have lost in regulation just twice on the road, in 14 games.
