The Silvertips were able to get it back quickly as Riley Sutter redirected a point shot from Jake Christiansen to make it 1-1 with Connor Dewar getting the secondary assist exactly one minute later at 15:44.
The Tips were able to gain the lead towards the end of the first as Matt Fonteyne snuck a puck between Skinner’s pads after a lot of traffic was generated around the Swift Current net to make it 2-1; Richards and Christiansen got the play going on the goal. At 19:01 Patrick Bajkov got got a puck past Skinner but it was blown dead due to a scrum that ensued in the Swift Current zone behind the play; Anderson received a slashing penalty and Richards received a boarding penalty. Both goaltenders faced 12 shots in the first.
Early in the second period, Colby Sissons took a high sticking penalty, giving Everett their first power play. Bajkov was able to score quickly but the goal was disallowed as the net was slightly dislodged and the score remained 2-1. The second period saw great end-to-end chances with both teams getting some quality opportunities but the goaltenders remained sharp. Stuart Skinner shut the door with a save on Garrett Pilon midway through the second. The Tips had another power play at the 14:42 mark as Tyler Steenbergen went off for a slash but the Tips were unable to capitalize on the man advantage.
The Silvertips had great control the first half of the third period and held Swift Current to only three shots during that time. The Broncos’ fourth shot of the period was a close one as Steenbergen rang one off the post. The Tips were defensively sound and able to generate a lot of offensive zone time throughout the third. The Tips got a power play at 15:23 as Gennaro went off for a high stick. In an unexpected turn of events, Gawdin got his second goal of the night shorthanded to tie the game at the 16:43 mark.
The Tips nearly put the game away when Luke Ormsby drove the net which manufactured a scrum and a loose puck situation, which almost trickled behind Skinner and into a vacated net. The game was decided by Gawdin at the 2:40 mark as he got the hat trick overtime goal from a wrister, inside of the right circle.
