LETHBRIDGE, Alberta – Riley Sutter and Bryce Kindopp each buried a pair of goals and Sutter scored the winner with 3:42 to play in regulation to lift the Everett Silvertips to a come-from-behind 4-3 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes before 3,335 fans at Enmax Centre on Friday in WHL action.
Snapping a three-game losing skid, the Tips used a 29 save effort from Dorrin Luding while Connor Dewar collected a pair of assists. Kevin Davis, assisting on Sutter’s late first period goal, collected the 100th assist in his WHL and Silvertips career while extending his scoring streak to seven straight games.
Kindopp put the Tips ahead, 1-0 just 59 seconds into the game when he cleaned up a rebound from Connor Dewar’s wrist shot. Sutter put the Tips up 2-0 with 1:16 to play in the first period when deflected Kevin Davis’ right point shot past Hurricanes goalie Stuart Skinner.
The Silvertips fell into penalty trouble and Lethbridge responded, posting a trio of power play goals in the second period to seize the lead at 3-2. Jordy Bellerive, scoring twice in the game, got Lethbridge on the board when he finished a post-to-post feed from Giorgio Estephan at the right side with 16:02 to play.
Dylan Cozens’ converted a breakaway with 4:58 to play for a 2-2 tie, but was penalized for interference on Dorrin Luding immediately after the puck slid into the net. The Tips failed to capitalize and moments after the kill were charged with too many men.
Lethbridge capitalized on Bellerive’s second goal of the game with 1:31 to play in the second period but the Silvertips had their answer ready 5:59 into the third period. On a break, Matt Fonteyne fed Kindopp between the circles, who unleashed a wrist shot to Skinner’s glove to tie the game again at 3-3.
Sutter then stashed the eventual game winner with 3:42 to play when he picked up his own rebound on a wrap-around bid and roofed the second chance over Skinner’s blocker.
Skinner made 32 saves to take the loss.
