RD 1, GM 5 RECAP: Hawks take 3-2 OT win in series finale
PORTLAND, Oreg. — Special teams proved to be the difference in the series-deciding Game 5, as Robbie Fromm-Delorme’s powerplay tally gave the Winterhawks an overtime victory and a series-clincher at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Saturday night.
Gabe Klassen gave the Hawks the lead 17:49 into the first period, banging in a rebound past Tyler Palmer for his second of the series.
Austin Roest pulled the Tips back even on the powerplay at 16:51, wiring a wrist shot from the high slot home for his fourth of the Playoffs. Minutes later, on another man advantage, Jackson Berezowski tipped a Raphael Pelletier shot from the blueline for his fourth of the series to give the Silvertips a 2-1 lead heading into the third.
Beau Courtney was hit with a high-sticking double-minor penalty early in the third period, with Portland capitalizing at 8:29 as James Stefan converted for his fourth of the postseason.
Fromm-Delorme’s game-winner game on the powerplay 9:45 into extra frame. With Dexter Whittle in the box for tripping, Fromm-Delorme took a feed from the doorstep by Klassen, slipping a shot through the legs of netminder Tyler Palmer for his second of the series.
Palmer finished with 40 saves on 43 shots. Jan Špunar turned aside 19 of 21 for Portland.
