RD 1, GM 2 RECAP: Nguyen scores two in 4-0 Portland win; Hawks lead series 2-0
PORTLAND, Oreg. — Two goals by Marcus Nguyen and a 23-save clean sheet by Jan Špunar powered Portland to victory at Veterans Memorial Coliseum Saturday night, as a 4-0 win over the Silvertips gives the Winterhawks a 2-0 series lead in the Western Conference Quarterfinal.
Marcus Nguyen continued his offensive eruption in the first period, first getting the Winterhawks on the board at 10:23 by capping off a 2-on-1 rush with a primary assist from Ryan McCleary. He grabbed his second of the game and fourth of the series at 13:38, planting himself in the crease and tapping a pass from the corner past netminder Tyler Palmer for a 2-0 Hawks lead after one.

Jack O’Brien added a powerplay goal at 15:46, converting a Robbie Fromm-Delorme feed from in front of the net for a 3-0 Portland advantage. With the goal, Portland’s powerplay improved to 3-for-5 on the series.
O’Brien tacked on an empty-netter at 18:44 to seal the deal. Jan Špunar stopped 23 shots for the shutout. Tyler Palmer turned aside 27 of 30.
