Game notes
The Silvertips match up with the Vancouver Giants in a playoff series for the fourth time in franchise history. Everett took three of four games from the Giants this campaign through a wacky regular season series. Their first meeting on Nov. 11 saw Everett set a franchise record with three shorthanded goals scored in a single game, two of them by Austin Roest, in a 6-2 win at Angel of the Winds Arena. The second, Everett’s Teddy Bear Toss Night on Dec. 8, was a 4-1 Silvertip win despite an hour-long delay in the action due to ice conditions. Then on Dec. 10, Vancouver’s Teddy Bear Toss game, Everett pulled out an 8-7 victory in which both teams scored five powerplay goals. It marked the ninth time in franchise history the team ever scored five PPGs in a single contest, and the first time the team had ever allowed five PPGs in a game and won. The fourth was a 4-3 Vancouver win at Langley Events Centre, a game in which the Silvertips battled back from down 4-1 in the third period to nearly tie the game.
The Giants are led by rookie Camerin Schmidt who paced the team with 31 goals this season. Goaltender Brett Mirwald appeared in a league-leading 55 games played and recorded league-high 1,723 saves, accumulating a 29-22-3 record with a 3.10 goals-against average and .913 save percentage.
Everett, meanwhile, finished the regular season with four 30-goal scorers with Austin Roest leading the way at 38. Goaltender Tyler Palmer became just the fifth Everett Silvertip to earn 30 wins in a single season, with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
