Making New Friends at Providence

EVERETT, Wash. – This morning the Everett Silvertips made their way down to Providence Regional Medical Center on the north side of town, stopping frequently with patients to support for their battle, in an effort to uplift spirits in honor of Pink the Rink.
With ticket sales and jersey auction proceeds benefiting breast cancer prevention avenues, Tips goalie Carter Hart was particularly impacted by the visit.
“It’s been eye opening coming up here and seeing these people, its my third time coming up here,” said Hart. “They’re very resilient people some of the stuff they have to go through is pretty tough and they battle hard.
Some of the stuff they have to go through is a lot harder than what we do and it makes us realize you cant take everything for granted and it’s good to come up here and put a smile on their face.
I know some of the things that they go through can be pretty hard for them so whenever you get a chance to come up here and brighten up their day that’s all you can really ask for and it makes us feel pretty good as well.”
That also includes Silvertips defenseman Kevin Davis.
“I think it’s really special how we do it for a great cause,” said Davis. “It’s awesome to see the new faces and tell them about the jerseys and the auction and how we raise money for the cause.”
Players all around mentioned their appreciation for each day, including co-captain Matt Fonteyne.
“It just kind of shows you have the little things in your life aren’t that tough at all,” Fonteyne said.
Hockey player and fan Renee Curtis works at Providence in the facility’s pharmacy, thrilled to see the Silvertips out in the community showing their support for the cause.
“It’s awesome it’s my favorite day of the year I love it but I think that the patients love it because it’s something different going on here at the cancer center,” said Curtis. “They see the Tips are out here giving support. I think Carter Hart personally got some patients to attend the game on Saturday!”
Pink the Rink is fast approaching and the Silvertips organization is optimistic and excited to see how much fans and the community raise for the cause.
This year marks year nine for the Silvertips’ flagship fundraiser.
On Saturday November 4, 2017 the Silvertips and fans will wear pink in support of Breast Cancer Research and will host multiple opportunities to give. Tickets are still available below, and a portion of each ticket sale will be added to the donation fund.
