Gut Earns 28-Man Roster Spot for Team Czech Republic
EVERETT, WA – The Everett Silvertips, proud seven-time U.S. Division champion and two time Western Conference champion of the Western Hockey League, announced today that center Michal Gut (“GOOT”) has been named to the Czech Republic 28-man roster for the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship, Dec. 25-Jan. 5 at Rogers Place in Edmonton.
Gut, 18, is set to compete at Edmonton for a spot on the final tournament roster, with three more roster decisions to come. Gut is on the verge of securing his first trip to the U20 event in his career. The 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship will be televised in the United States on NHL Network.
The native of Kadan, Czech Republic is tied for the lead on HC Banik Sokolov (2nd Czech Republic) with seven goals and is third with 11 points in eight games, on loan from the Silvertips to begin the 2020-21 season. Last season, he earned Silvertips Rookie of the Year honors and was ninth among WHL rookies with 36 points (13g-23a) in 51 games, also ranking third on the Silvertips in face-offs won (403), tied for fourth in game winning goals (4), and a +15 rating. Gut earned a trio of three-point games and ten times had a multi point game.
At the U18 level where he served as captain in the Czech Republic program last season, Gut had seven points in seven games of competition, including four points in four games at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup. In 49 games of international competition for his career, he has 35 points (15g-20a).
Gut is eligible for the 2021 NHL Entry Draft and will be entering his second season with the Silvertips.
Team Czech Republic will set their final roster in Edmonton at 25 players after a final phase of training camp.
ABOUT THE SILVERTIPS AND THE NHL
A total of 19 players have suited up in an Everett Silvertips jersey and advanced to play in the National Hockey League, since the Silvertips joined the WHL in 2003-04. Entering this season, the Silvertips have elevated 27 players to be selected by teams in the NHL Entry Draft, including eight over the previous three seasons. By the end of the 2019-20 season, all three Silvertips in the 20-year old category earned NHL entry level contracts: Bryce Kindopp (Anaheim), Wyatte Wylie (Philadelphia), and Jake Christiansen (Columbus).
The Seattle Kraken, an expansion franchise scheduled to play 30 miles away from Everett at Climate Pledge Arena, will make their NHL debut in the 2021-22 season.
