EVERETT, Wash. – Although the Everett Silvertips had their three-game winning streak snapped, the impact was felt in more than just the final box score.
5 Things from Pink The Rink:
- Pink the Rink remains one of the most exciting and meaningful games of the Everett season. A total of 7,887 fans came out Saturday to rock pink flashing bracelets, given away for fans entering XFINITY Arena, and raise money for Providence Comprehensive Breast Center.
- The fans were able to see an awesome game that went down to the final minutes and quite the show between the two goaltenders, Carter Hart and Cole Kehler. Hart and Kehler both made over 40 saves and it is safe to say that Hart’s opening weekend at home has been extremely impressive. Although Hart remains, by credentials, as the top goaltender in the WHL, Kehler put on an incredible show in front of the Portland net.
- The power play fell short on finishing but continued to find chances. The Tips earned quality looks with sharp puck movement, but Kehler was sharp to turn away shots from the circles and several Tips chances were clogged in shooting lanes. Improvements in generating scoring chances have arrived. The penalty kill stayed sharp, remaining 3rd overall in the WHL.
- Sean Richards has been having a great year thus far and scored his 4th of the season tonight, giving him 9 points (his career high is 23 in 67 games, set last year). Jake Christiansen got the lone assist on Richards’ goal with a point shot that got through traffic, a positive to see the defense contributing on scoring chances.
- The pink jerseys that rocked by Silvertip players tonight had the opportunity to be purchased by fans in a pre-sale “buy it now” online gallery and at the game Saturday via silent auction, and players posed with the fans for photos after the game. Pink the Rink, no matter the outcome, is always an amazing experience that greatly impacts lives in the Pacific Northwest, producing a night to remember for Everett players and fans alike.

“It some good hockey, I thought the guys played well. That’s a good hockey team [Portland] over there, you can’t take them lightly.”
“That was some pretty good hockey for 60 minutes, two teams battling it out, both teams had great goaltending and a nailbiter at the end, and minus the empty net, it is a 2-1 hockey game. It was disheartening for the guys but you learn from it and there were a lot of positives to take away from it.”
The Tips finished the short homestand 1-1, and will look to rebound Friday in Prince George at 7pm (1380 AM / WHL Live).
