REGINA, SK – The Everett Silvertips held the lead throughout most of Saturday night’s game before the Regina Pats scored twice in the final seven minutes to come away with a 4-3 win at the Brandt Center. The loss drops Everett to 1-1 on their six-game East Division road swing with the next game coming Tuesday in Moose Jaw.
Reid Petryk, Trent Lofthouse and Josh Winquist scored goals for the Silvertips, who led 3-1 midway through contest before Regina potted the game’s last three goals. Making his second consecutive start in goal, Daniel Cotton stopped 23 shots in defeat as the Pats outshot the ‘Tips by a narrow 27-24 margin.
Regina was spotted the first goal in the opening minute when Morgan Klimchuk scored off a failed clearing attempt in the slot to make it 1-0 Pats. Reid Petryk tied it on the powerplay for Everett at 6:23, rushing past a defender and into the right circle before roofing a shot over the left shoulder of Regina goalie Teagan Sacher. The ‘Tips took the lead later in the period as Trent Lofthouse stole a puck in the corner and out-muscled the defense on his way to the net, tucking home his third goal in as many games and giving the visitors a 2-1 edge.
Regina had a five-minute powerplay early in the second frame on a major penalty to Lucas Grayson, but Everett didn’t allow a scoring chance while killing it off completely. The Silvertips then added to their lead when Ty Mappin won a draw ahead in the offensive zone and dished to Josh Winquist, who netted his fourth goal of the year at 10:08 to make it 3-1. The Pats countered on an odd-man rush five minutes later as Daniel Cotton stopped Trent Ouellette’s initial shot only to see Luke Fenske score on the rebound.
The ‘Tips continued to lead 3-2 throughout most of the third before Regina’s powerplay finally broke through. Lane Sheidl’s back-door pass left Chandler Stephenson with a tap-in goal to tie it at 13:35. Just over one minute later, the Pats won a puck in the corner and Dyson Stevenson skated alone in front to backhand a shot between Cotton’s pads, giving Regina the 4-3 lead. The Pats then held off a late Everett push to secure the win.
Teagan Sacher made 21 saves for Regina to get his first career WHL victory in goal. The Silvertips scored once on a pair of powerplay opportunities, while holding the Pats scoreless on four of five chances.
