Royals Medical Director Dr. Michael Conrad and Director of Athletic Performance JT Ward named to medical staff for Hockey Canada U17 Development Camp
Dr. Michael Conrad and JT Ward of the Victoria Royals have been named to the medical staff for the upcoming U17 Development Camp, taking place in Calgary, AB from July 10th to 16th.
Ward has served as the Royals’ Athletic Therapist from 2019 to 2021 and was promoted to Director of Athletic Performance prior to the 2021-22 season. He had previous experience with the Royals on an interim basis during the 2018-2019 season and as a Student Athletic Trainer from 2014-2016.
“Joining the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence has been a goal of mine since becoming an athletic therapist,” said Ward. “I’m excited and humbled for the opportunity. I look forward to working with the top tier athletes, coaches and staff members and applying the experiences learned back with the Royals organization.”
Meanwhile, Dr. Conrad has remained with the Royals as their Medical Director since the franchise arrived in Victoria in 2011 and had previously served on the medical team for the Victoria Salmon Kings prior to joining the Royals organization.
“It is an honour to be invited to the Hockey Canada U17 program,” added Dr. Conrad. “The professional manner in which all activities, both on-ice and off-ice, are approached makes it a valuable event to contribute to and be a part of. It is going to be quite exciting to witness the exceptionally high level of play and commitment that the very best players in Canada, and from around the world, bring to the rink.”
The pair will serve alongside two other physicians and four other athletic therapists gathered from across the nation at next month’s camp.
The U17 development camp is set to take place July 10th to 16th at the Markin MacPhail Centre at WinSport’s Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.
