Manitoba Moose Name Morgan Klimchuk Assistant Coach
Victoria, B.C. – The Victoria Royals announced today that Assistant Coach Morgan Klimchuk has been hired by the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League (AHL) as the clubs Assistant Coach.
Klimchuk spent the last two seasons with the Royals as the teams Assistant Coach.
“Today is a bittersweet day for our organization.” said Royals General Manager Jake Heisinger. “Morgan had a tremendous impact on our players with his upbeat personality, knowledge, and work ethic that he brought to the rink every day. The WHL is a developmental league for players as well as staff and having a coach with Morgan’s professionalism move on from our organization exemplifies the type of culture we are proud of both on and off the ice. Klimmer will certainly be missed by our players, staff and fans however this is a well-deserved opportunity, and we are extremely happy for him.”
Klimchuk joined the Royals prior to the 2022-23 season, having previously served as an assistant coach with the Edge U15 Prep team during the 2021-22 season after concluding his playing career.
“Morgan is one of the bright up and coming coaches in the game.” Said Royals Head Coach James Patrick. “I will miss working with him, but I am very excited as he moves on to the next chapter of his coaching career.”
Klimchuk was drafted in the first round, 28th overall by the Calgary Flames in 2013, and went on to spend five seasons in professional hockey. Klimchuk was drafted fifth overall in the first round by the Regina Pats in the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft. He spent five seasons as a player in the WHL, accumulating 118 goals and 267 points in 261 games played between the Regina Pats and Brandon Wheat Kings.
“I am extremely grateful for my time in Victoria and with the Royals organization. I will forever be thankful to Dan, Jake, Joey, and James for the chance to work with so many incredible athletes and staff members during my two seasons on the island. The decision to leave was a very difficult one to make, and ultimately was done with mixed emotions. I am very excited for the opportunity to take the next step in my coaching career with Manitoba and wish nothing but the best for the Royals team and organization. I will be following along closely.” Said Klimchuk.
The search for a new Assistant Coach will begin immediately.
