Rockets Comeback For 2-1 Shootout Win
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Vancouver Giants 2-1 in a shootout on Wednesday afternoon at Prospera Place, winning its fifth straight game.
After a scoreless first period, the Giants Tyler Benson gave Vancouver a 1-0 lead and the game stayed that way until Tanner Wishnowski scored his second of the season for Kelowna, with just over five minutes to play in the third.
Overtime solved nothing and the teams headed to the shootout, where Nick Merkley and Justin Kirkland each scored, while both Vancouver shooters were denied by Kelowna starter Jackson Whistle.
The win improved the Rockets record to 14-5-0-0. Whistle earned the win in net as Kelowna was outshot 33-32 in the game.
The Rockets will now play two straight road games before returning to Prospera Place, heading to Spokane on Saturday before playing in Kamloops next Wednesday.
Kelowna’s next home games are Nov. 20 and 21 when they host Edmonton and Vancouver.
