Rockets Come Back to Beat Edmonton 5-3
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 5-3 on Friday night at Rexall Place in Edmonton, coming from behind to earn the win.
Cole Linaker scored twice, including the winning goal and an insurance goal into the empty net as the Rockets started a stretch of four road games in five nights in the WHL Central Division.
Kelowna trailed 3-1 late in the second period before first year Swiss import Calvin Thurkauf scored his first WHL goal, making the score 3-2 and sparking the Rockets comeback.
Kole Lind scored early in the third period to tie the score before Linaker’s winner with just 1:31 to go. Rourke Chartier also scored for Kelowna, which improves to 3-1-0-0 on the season.
Michael Herringer earned the win in net as Kelowna outshot Edmonton 42-38. The Rockets were 2-for-7 on the power play while the Oil Kings also scored twice with the man advantage on four chances.
The Rockets now head to Red Deer on Saturday night to play the Rebels before playing Friday night in Lethbridge and Tuesday night in Medicine Hat.
Kelowna’s next home game is October 9 vs. Victoria.
