Bulmer Arrives Late; Scores 1st Goal of Season
Brett Bulmer’s late arrival to the rink on Saturday night could have provided a boost to the Kelowna Rockets.
But despite Bulmer’s first goal of the season late in the first period, the Minnesota draft pick, along with the rest of the Rockets, were out-gunned by the Prince George Cougars, who defeated Kelowna 6-2 in the Rockets Western Hockey League home opener.
It was 2-0 for the Cougars when Bulmer scored the Rockets first goal of the season, late in the opening period.
But after that it was all Prince George.
After Taylor Makin and Nick Buonassisi had scored in the first, the Cougars added two more in the second and another pair in the third to skate away with the win. Spencer Asuchak scored twice while Brett Connolly and Jesse Forsberg had the other Prince George goals.
“I thought Prince George played very hard,” said Rockets head coach Ryan Huska. “They came out and they outworked us.”
Down 6-1 in the third period, Zach Franko banged home a rebound for the Rockets and his first WHL goal.
“They came out flying. I thought we started our pretty well but as the game went on I think we slowed down,” said Kelowna forward Evan Bloodoff.
Kelowna now plays on Wednesday when they host Tri-City.
