Norway Records Win over Germany at World Jr.
Team Norway recorded their first win of the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Team Germany on Tuesday afternoon at Dwyer Arena.
Norway had a tough start in the tournament as they went into today’s game with a five game losing streak. However, they ended it on a high note, as their victory pushed them to a 1-0-0-5 record.
“We just wanted to show that we weren’t the worse team here,” said goaltender Steffen-Kent Soberg following the victory. “We played well defensively and we scored three goals. We wanted to show the world that we belong.”
Norway got off to a great start, when Nicholas Weberg took a quick shot that trickled through the German goaltender Niklas Treutle’s legs. The Norwegians ended the first period ahead by one.
German forward Tom Kuhnjackl evened the game up in the second period, when the Pittsburgh Penguins’ prospect pulled off an impressive backhand shot to beat Steffen-Kent Soberg on the low glove side. Team Norway grabbed the lead in the third period when Hans-Kristian Hollstedt’s shot bounced off of Treutle and into the back of the net. Petter Roste-Fossen secured the win for Norway as he slid the puck into the empty net.
Germany played undisciplined throughout the game as they accumulated 30 minutes in penalties. Germany leaves this year’s tournament with disappointing a 0-0-1-5 record.
“The whole game we had a lot of chances but we couldn’t bang them home. It was a pretty tough tournament for us,” said Kuhnhackl.
