Each Western Hockey League season, the Kelowna Rockets work with a variety of different charities. From the annual alumni golf tournament in the summer, to regular nights at Prospera Place where money is raised for causes such as breast cancer, kids, the food bank and much more.
The Rockets have raised close to $400,000 for different wards at the Kelowna General Hospital with it’s alumni event in the summer. In the exhibition season, two dollars from every ticket sold is donated to Cops for Kids, a total that is over $34,000 since the program began in 2001. Much more money is raised by the Rockets, both directly and indirectly.
Each season the Rockets host several fundraising nights while other groups use Rockets game nights to raise awareness or funds for their cause. Among the regular nights is Paint the Pink Rink with proceeds to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation where special jerseys are auctioned off to raise money.
Other groups the Rockets are partnered with to raise funds include but are not limited to:
– The SPCA
– The Heart and Stroke foundation
– The Canadian Cancer Society
– Brain Trust Canada
– The YMCA
– The Have a Heart Radio Thon
– The Kelowna Community Food Bank
Other groups and businesses such as Sun City Physiotherapy are strong Rockets supporters and offer opportunities to win free tickets to home games.
