Chartier/Whistle Player of Week Nods
The Western Hockey League announced today that Kelowna Rockets forward Rourke Chartier is the Denny’s WHL Player of the Week for the week ending May 17th, 2015.
Chartier recorded five points (3g-2a) to help the Kelowna Rockets pick up two victories against the Brandon Wheat Kings in the 2015 WHL Championship Series and claim the Ed Chynoweth Cup as the 49th WHL Champions.
On Monday, May 11th against the Wheat Kings, Chartier scored a pair of goals and added an assist to cap off a three point performance while earning first star honours in the Rockets 5-3 victory. On Wednesday, May 13th, Chartier collected two points (1g-1a) including a short-handed marker to lift the Rockets to a 3-0 victory over the Wheat Kings.
The 19-year-old Saskatoon, SK native amassed 82 points (48g-34a) while playing in 58 games this season for the Rockets. The 5’11, 190 lb forward completed his third WHL campaign with Kelowna and has gathered 170 points (85g-85a) in 188 career WHL regular season contests to go along with a plus-75 rating. In 33 career WHL Playoff games, Chartier has gathered 32 points (19g-13a) and a plus-16 rating
The WHL has also nominated Jackson Whistle of the Kelowna Rockets for the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week award. Whistle, a 1995-born netminder from West Kelowna, BC, recorded a pair of wins last week in the 2015 WHL Championship Series against the Brandon Wheat Kings while posting a 1.50 goals against average and a .938 save percentage. On Monday, May 11th, Whistle turned aside 26 of 29 shots to lift the Rockets to a 5-3 win against the Wheat Kings in Game 3 of the WHL Championship Series. On Wednesday, May 13th, Whistle was productive as he stopped all 19 shots he faced to pick up his fourth shutout of the post-season in the Rockets 3-0 victory over the Wheat Kings.
