Rookie Camp Starts Today
Kelowna Rockets rookie camp begins today as the players come for registration and then tomorrow they hit the ice.
Assistant Coach Kris Mallette says for the rookies, it’s all about work ethic and doing what got you there.
“Just work hard. We don’t expect you to be somebody that you’re not,” Mallette said. “Our scouting staff does a really good job of picking out high talent, so they’ve obviously seen something and brought you in for a reason so make sure you’re doing what you do best, and again, don’t try to be someone you’re not.”
The players and fans aren’t the only ones excited for the return to the ice. Mallette said he and the rest of the coaching staff are just as pumped up.
“We’re absolutely excited. Hopefully this marks the beginning of a long season for us,” told Mallette. “Summer is a great time to just recharge but when you come back and see the ice and start seeing all the guys trickling in, it’s exciting for us.”
The schedule for the week for rookie camp looks like this:
Rookie camp runs until August 25th and then starts main camp.
The Rockets first take the ice in a game uniform on September 2nd at 7:05pm at Prospera Place when they host the Victoria Royals for the first game of the preseason.
Tickets are available for Rockets home games through selectyourtickets.com, at the Prospera Place box office or by phone at 250-762-5050.
