Payworks Recap: Rockets fall to T-Birds 2-1 in shootout
The Kelowna Rockets fell 2-1 to the Seattle Thunderbirds in a shootout on Tuesday night in Kent, Was.
Talyn Boyko made his sixth straight start for Kelowna, stopping 37 of the 38 shots fired on him. Mark Liwiski scored the lone goal of the night for the Rockets.
Seattle entered the game with the top penalty kill in the WHL with a kill rate of 85.2%. They were able to shut down both of Kelowna’s opportunities on the man advantage. Meanwhile, Kelowna’s penalty kill was also perfect on the night, stopping the Thunderbirds three times.

Thunderbird Reid Schaefer (10) opened the game’s scoring in the second period.
Left alone out in front of the Seattle net, Pavel Novak set up Mark Liwiski (5) to tie up the game.
With 3:40 to play in regulation, Liwiski was assessed a five-minute major and game misconduct for checking from behind. The Rockets were able to kill off the man advantage through regulation and into overtime.
The game needed a three-round shootout to decide a winner.
Seattle shot first. Henrik Rybinski (miss), Reid Schaefer (miss) and Mekai Sanders (goal) fired for the Thunderbirds.
Jake Lee (miss), Colton Dach (miss) and Turner McMillen were all shooters for Portland.

The Thunderbirds outshot the Rockets 38-32.
Kelowna is now 11-6-0-3. Their road trip will wrap up tomorrow night against the Seattle Thunderbirds Everett Silvertips, puck drop is set for 7:05 pm.
The Rockets will return home to host the Prince George Cougars on Friday at 7:05 pm. The box office is open 11:00 a.m. to 4:00p.m. Tuesday through Friday, and opens at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday home game days.
