Payworks Recap: Rockets snap Silvertips eight game win streak with shootout victory
The Kelowna Rockets, who had their eight-game win streak snapped by the Everett Silvertips last Sunday, returned the favour on Friday night by snapping the ‘Tips eight-game win streak with a 4-2 shootout in the shootout on Saturday at Prospera Place in Kelowna, BC.
Both teams were well-rested, having last played each other last Sunday in Everett where the Rockets fell 6-2. The Silvertips are currently ranked second in this weeks Kia CHL Top-10 Rankings for week 15.
The Rockets didn’t trail at all throughout the game, with the Silvertips pushing back three times to tie the game. Colton Dach earned first star honours after posting a goal and an assist, while Talyn Boyko picked up third star honours after picking up his 18th win of the season.
Minnesota Wild prospect Pavel Novak scored the lone shootout goal, all three Everett shooters unsuccessful against Boyko.
With the victory, the Rockets record improves to 25-11-1-3, they currently sit second in the BC Division with 57 points.

While in on a two-on-one with Marcus Pacheco, Colton Dach (15) opened the games scoring 2:48 into the game. Minutes later Austin Roest (8) deflected a shot past Boyko to tie the game. With his visiting from the Czech Republic and in the stands, Gabriel Szturc (8) netted a power play goal. Ryan Hofer (22) responded for Everett before the end of the opening frame with his own power play goal.
The Rockets regained the lead when Adam Kydd found Nolan Flamand (8) at the backdoor. Olen Zellweger (10) scored the final goal of regulation in the final minutes of the second period.
Pavel Novak, sporting a full face shield after taking a skate to the face earlier in the first period, was the first shooter in the shootout. He was the lone goal scorer of the skills competition. Needing a goal to extend the game, the Silvertips sent former Rocket and Kelowna product Alex Swetlikoff, who was turned down by Boyko.

Olen Zellweger (goal), Jackson Berezowski (X), Alex Swertlikoff (X) were all shooters for Everett.
The Rockets were one-for-one on the power play, while the Silvertips were one-for-three with the man advantage.
Everett outshot Kelowna 37 to 27.
The Rockets will be back in action tomorrow when they face former Rocket Ethan Ernst and the Tri-City Americans at 7:05 pm at Prospera Place.
