Former Rocket Cal Foote to compete for 2022 Stanley Cup
For the third year in a row, at least one former Kelowna Rocket will be competing in the Stanley Cup Finals.
Cal Foote and the Tampa Bay Lightning booked their ticket to the Final with a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers in game six of the Eastern Conference final on Saturday.
It’s the third straight year that the Lightning will play for the cup, they’re looking to win their third consecutive championship. Foote, who was not on the 2020 Championship team, will be looking to win back-to-back cups.
The former Kelowna Rocket captain has appeared in 13 playoff games with Tampa Bay throughout the 2022 Playoffs, posting a pair of assists, six penalty minutes and a +1 plus/minus rating.
Foote, a second-round pick of the Rockets in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft, suited up in 202 WHL regular-season games also all with the Rockets over three seasons, collecting 163 points (33G, 130A) and 123 penalty minutes.
The Lightning selected Foote 14th overall at the 2017 NHL Draft. He’s the son of two time Stanley Cup champion defenceman Adam Foote.
The Avalanche will host Games 1 and 2 of the best-of-7 series, as well as Games 5 and 7, if necessary. The Lightning will host Games 3 and 4, as well as Game 6, if necessary.
