Dube Chosen 56th by Flames at NHL Draft
The Calgary Flames selected Rockets forward Dillon Dube 56th overall at the NHL Draft in Buffalo on Saturday morning.
Dube is the second Rocket picked in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft after Lucas Johansen was chosen in the first round Friday night by the Washington Capitals.
A native of Cochrane, AB,—just outside of Calgary—Dube opted to sleep in Saturday morning rather than get up early and watch the results. His parents woke him with the news that he had been drafted by the Flames, his hometown team.
“Woke up and saw it. It was pretty cool sitting at home with my family and being able to be selected by the hometown team i don’t think it gets better than that,” said Dube.
When contacted by kelownarockets.com, Johansen said it was a whirlwind night he was happy to spend with his family.
“It’s pretty crazy,” he said. “Once you hear your name called it’s all cameras and interviews and sign this and sign that. But it was great knowing I’m part of a great organization. “I woke up and saw the hat they gave me, it was first thing I thought of. I’m very honoured to be part of the Capitals organization.
“My family was here and my close family fiends. They’ve been with me since the beginning. It was definitely a fun moment sharing it with them.”
