Rockets Power Past Blades 5-1
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Saskatoon Blades 5-1 on Wednesday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, snapping a mini three game home winless streak and improving to 23-3-3-0 on the season.
Rourke Chartier scored twice while Nick Merkley had a goal and two assists as the two Kelowna forwards continued to sit one-two in WHL scoring. For Chartier he now has a WHL leading 31 goals and 50 points on the season while Merkley is second in WHL scoring with 49 points.
The Rockets trailed the Blades 1-0 after the first period of play before breaking out in the second with four straight goals to take control of the game.
Sixteen-year-old rookie Dillon Dube scored his first WHL goal while Tyrell Goulbourne added his 13th of the season. Rockets captain Madison Bowey had three assists in the game while Riley Stadel had two helpers
The Rockets are now 1-and-1 on a four game homestand and are back in action this weekend with two games at Prospera Place.
Kelowna plays host to the Prince George Cougars on Friday night before taking on the Prince Albert Raiders on Saturday in what will be the team’s Teddy Bear Toss.
