Rockets Beat Blazers 6-4 in Kamloops
The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 6-4 on Wednesday night in Kamloops, extending its season opening winning streak to nine games.
The Rockets scored three times in the second period to take the lead with Austin Glover and Rourke Chartier each scoring twice and Nick Merkley posting three assists to lead the Rockets offense.
Jackson Whistle was stellar in net for the Rockets, who were outshot by Kamloops 39-33.
“I thought it was a better game for us than the one against Lethbridge,” said Rockets assistant coach Kris Mallette on the AM1150 post game show. “I thought we had some good pressure down low and their goalie made some good saves. On the goals they scored it was pretty simple mistakes on our part.”
Riley Stadel and Tyrell Goulbourne also scored for the Rockets while Tyson Baillie and Justin Kirkland added two assists apiece.
The win moves the Rockets record to 9-0-0-0 on the season as they head to a two-game weekend in the US Division, playing in Spokane Friday and in Tri-City Saturday.
“For us its just about us getting better each and every day,” said Mallette. “Tonight was a step in the right direction and we will take it to our next game in Spokane.”
