2012 WHL TRADE DEADLINE TRACKER
Calgary, AB – The WHL trade deadline for the 2011-12 season has passed. A total of nine transactions were made on Tuesday, which was the WHL’s trade deadline, involving12 teams, 12 players and 19 Bantam Draft picks.
A total of 22 transactions were made over the 14 days following the Christmas break and leading up to the WHL’s trade deadline, involving 36 players and 32 WHL Bantam Draft picks.
Several teams made blockbuster trades involving high-profile players including the Brandon Wheat Kings, who acquired Buffalo Sabres prospect Kevin Sundher, the WHL’s seventh-leading scorer, from the Victoria Royals.
The Tri-City Americans traded for the rights to former WHL Rookie of the Year and Canadian national junior team star Brett Connolly, who is currently with the NHL’s Tampa Bay Lightning, while the Moose Jaw Warriors acquired veterans Cam Braes from the Lethbridge Hurricanes and James Henry of the Vancouver Giants, both whom were captains of their former teams.
Other major deals of Trade Deadline day included the Portland Winterhawks acquiring German forward Marcel Noebels from the Seattle Thunderbirds, and the Regina Pats acquiring Slovakian defenseman Martin Marincin from the Prince George Cougars.
