BC HOCKEY MAJOR MIDGET COACHES ANNOUNCED
BC Hockey announced the Major Midget League head coaches for the 2011-2012 season. The Major Midget League (MML) will be entering the eighth season of play.
Trevor Sprague – Cariboo Cougars
Sprague is entering his third year as the head coach of the Cariboo Cougars and has led the Cougars to two (2) consecutive MML Championship showdowns against the Vancouver North West Giants. Sprague was named Major Midget League Coach of the Year for the 2009-10 season.
Troy Campbell – Fraser Valley Bruins
This will be Campbell’s first season as head coach of the Fraser Valley Bruins. For the past six (6) years he has been the head coach of the Abbotsford Bantam AAA team, and has led the team to three (3) BC Hockey Tier 1 Championships. Campbell will be looking to improve upon the Bruins ninth place finish in the 2010-2011 season.
Leland Mack – Greater Vancouver Canadians
Mack will be entering his third season as the head coach of the Canadians. Under his leadership the Canadians finished fourth in the 2010-2011 season, but fell to the eventual MML Champions, the Vancouver North West Giants in the semi-finals.
Dan Lemmon – North Island Silvertips
Lemmon will be entering his first season as head coach of the North Island Silvertips, after serving as assistant coach to the team for the past two (2) seasons. As head coach he will be looking to improve upon the Silvertips seventh place finish in the 2010-2011 season.
James Eccles – Okanagan Rockets
This will be Eccles first year coaching the Okanagan Rockets, and he will be dedicated to improving the Rockets eighth place finish in the 2010-2011 season. Eccles has previous coaching experience in the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), and has been an instructor with the Hockey Canada Skills Academy for three (3) years.
Craig Didmon – South Island Thunderbirds
Didmon will be entering his second season as the head coach of the South Island Thunderbirds. He led the Thunderbirds to a fifth place season finish in 2010-2011 – an impressive improvement from the team’s tenth place finish in the previous season.
Tyler Forsythe – Thompson Blazers
Forsythe will be entering his second year as head coach for the Thompson Blazers. Prior to joining the Blazers, he was the general manager/assistant coach for the Merritt Centennials of the BCHL. Forsythe will be looking to improve upon the Blazer’s last place finish in the 2010-2011 MML season.
Rob Rogers – Valley West Hawks
This will be Roger’s seventh year coaching in the MML, and second consecutive year as head coach for the Valley West Hawks. He led the 2010-2011 team to a third place season finish, but fell to the Cariboo Cougars in the semi-finals.
Doneau Menard – Vancouver North East Chiefs
Menard has served as the head coach of the Chiefs since the 2006-2007 season. He will be looking to build upon the team’s sixth place finish in the 2010-2011 regular season. The Chiefs fell to the Valley West Hawks in quarter-finals.
Todd Harkins – Vancouver North West Giants
Harkins will be entering his second season as the head coach of the Giants, and is coming off of a Championship season. The 2010-2011 Championship series saw the Giant’s defeat the Cariboo Cougars for the second consecutive season, and gave the team their third consecutive MML Championship title.
The head coach of the Kootenay Ice will be announced at a later date.
The BC Hockey Major Midget League was established in 2004 to provide elite level 15, 16 and 17 year olds an opportunity to play within their own age group at a high level and be developed for the next level of hockey. These teams have an opportunity each year to compete for the National Midget Championship.
