WHL U.S. Challenge Cup: Day 2 Recap

Greater Vancouver Canadians vs. San Jose Jr. Sharks – Box Score 

The San Jose Jr. Sharks held on for 2-1 win over the Greater Vancouver Canadians. Cormac Grebe scored the winning goal with 39 seconds left in the second period. Grady Lenton scored the lone goal unassisted for the Canadians.

Benjamin Picard was named player of the game for San Jose while goaltender Markus Lam named player of the game for Greater Vancouver.

 

West Van Warriors vs. Phoenix Jr. Coyotes – Box Score 

The West Van Warriors opened the day at Kent Valley Ice Centre with a 4-1 win over the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes. West Van’s Jake Gudelj potted a pair of goals for West Van and Grayden Slipec added a couple of helpers to help lead the team to victory. Jr. Coyote’s goaltender Nick Gingold turned away 36 of 40 shots in a solid performance between the pipes.

Jake Gudelj was named player of the game for the West Van Warriors. Nick Gingold earned player of the game honours for the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes.

 

Okanagan Rockets vs. Los Angeles Jr. Kings – Box Score 

The Los Angeles Jr. Kings put the game away with a late third period goal to beat the Okanagan Rockets 5-3. Brenden Fields notched a hat trick for the Jr. Kings while Brayden Skogstad had a goal and an assist for the Rockets.

Declan Stewart was named player of the game for Los Angeles and Nathan Gossoo was named player of the game for Okanagan.

 

Delta Hockey Academy Wild vs. Team Alaska 14U – Box Score 

Delta H0ckey Academy earned their third victory of the WHL U.S. Challenge Cup by edging out Team Alaska 4-1 on Saturday. Oliver Tulk led the way for Delta with two goals, while Loghan Weber added two assists.

Maddoc Newton scored the lone goal for Team Alaska and Phoenix Hewlett had another solid game in net with 40 saves on 44 shots.

Oliver Tulk was named player of the game for Delta Hockey Academy. Maddoc Newton earned player of the game honours for Team Alaska.

 

Yale Hockey Academy Lions vs. Dallas Stars Elite 05 – Box Score 

The Yale Hockey Academy Lions scored 3 unanswered to beat the Dallas Stars Elite 05 in the last game of the round robin of the WHL U.S. Challenge Cup at the accesso ShoWare Center. Zach Benson had 2 goals and an assist in the win while Ethan Donovan had a goal and an assist for the Stars.

Benson was named player of the game for the Lions while Dylan Johnson was named player of the game for the Stars.

 

San Diego Saints vs. Seattle Junior Admirals – Box Score 

The final round robin game at the Kent Valley Ice Centre saw the San Diego Saints shutout the Seattle Junior Admirals 5-0. The Saints Ethan Overman registered a goal and an assist and goaltender Owen Crudale stopped all 22 shots that came his way. Grant Liang of the Admirals stopped 21 of 22 in relief of starter Aly Nathoo.

Owen Crudale was named player of the game for the San Diego Saints and Grant Liang was named player of the game for the Seattle Junior Admirals.
