WHL completes first round of 2017 WHL Bantam Draft

 

 

Calgary, Alta. – The Western Hockey League completed the first round of the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft this morning at the Deerfoot Inn in Calgary.

After winning the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft Lottery, the Prince Albert Raiders used the first-overall pick to select defenceman Kaiden Guhle (Sherwood Park, Alta./OHA Edmonton)

Alberta led all provinces with 11 players selected in the first round, followed by B.C. with six players, Saskatchewan with three players and Manitoba with two players.

By position, 15 forwards, six defenceman and one goaltender were selected in the first round.

A record 13 players were selected from Canadian Sports School Hockey League teams in the first round.

Players eligible for the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft are 2002-born players residing in Alberta, B.C., Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Yukon, Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
