The 2016 Male U16 Provincial Summer Camp will be taking place this week in Wilcox, SK from August 1-5, 2016. Players were invited to the camp based on their performance at the SaskFirst U16 Tournament, which was held April 14 – 17, 2016 in Regina, SK. Following the Provincial Summer Camp, players will be evaluated during the beginning of the 2016 – 2017 season. Twenty (20) players will then be named to Team Saskatchewan that will compete at the 2016 Western Canada Challenge Cup in October.
Of the 43 players attending the 2016 SaskFirst U16 Provincial Summer Camp, 32 were drafted in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft held previously this spring. There will be 12 first and second round selections attending the camp, including top 15 overall picks: Logan Barlage (4th Overall – Swift Current), Kaedan Korczak (11th Overall – Kelowna), and Braden Schneider (12th Overall – Brandon).
The SaskFirst Program was introduced by the Saskatchewan Hockey Association (SHA) in 1988 and since that time the program has brought great pride and accomplishment within the province. The SaskFirst Program was designed to provide a better understanding of the game as well as to promote the development of quality players, coaches, trainers, officials and administrators. The participants are enriched as individuals and can achieve self-satisfaction and enjoyment as part of the hockey community.
