Kamloops clinches Dallas Saunders Memorial Tournament
Abbotsford, BC – The Annual Dallas Saunders Memorial Tournament wrapped up on Monday evening, as the Kamloops Jr Blazers defeated the Arizona Bobcats in a convincing 6-2 victory to clinch the championship.
Kamloops earned its way to the gold medal game through wins over the Abbotsford Hawks, Mission Stars, North Vancouver Storm, and Prince George Cougars, while outscoring its opponents by a 24-10 margin through four preliminary games. At the other end, Arizona had a strong tournament, with convincing wins over Delta Academy, North West Travellers, and the Abbotsford Hawks, while outscoring its opposition 22-9 en route to the final game, where they earned silver.
Kamloops forward Logan Stankoven, who finished tied for third in tournament scoring, with 10 points (7-3-10), paced the Blazers up front. Adam Niles backstopped Kamloops with a 3-0-0 record and one shutout, while Bailey Monteith went 2-0-0. At the other end, Bobcats goaltender Hunter Mitchell also recorded four wins in a stellar performance throughout the weekend. Logan Valkama paced the Bobcats in scoring with 8 goals and 2 assists through six games.
The victory marked the third championship of the season for the Kamloops Jr Blazers, and their second Dallas Saunders Memorial Tournament championship in the last four years at the event.
