The 40th annual John Reid Memorial Tournament is set to kick off Thursday January 18th – 21st
St. Albert, AB – Teams from around Western Canada and the United States get ready to compete in one of the countries elite and premier hockey tournaments. The 40th annual John Reid Memorial Tournament is set to kick off Thursday January 18th – 21st at Servus Credit Union Place in St. Albert, AB. Teams eagerly await their chance to battle in this invitation only tournament, featuring an elite group of 2003 and 2004 players.
The host St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres will be joined by the Sherwood Park Flyers, Calgary Bisons, Airdrie Xtreme, Lethbridge Golden Hawks and Calgary Royals as the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League reps, as well as the Rink Hockey Academy of Winnipeg, Burnaby Winter Club Academy, Delta Hockey Academy Green, Yale Hockey Academy of Abbotsford, Okanagan Hockey Academy of Penticton, St. Georges Academy of Vancouver, OHA Academy of Edmonton, Northern Alberta Xtreme, Los Angeles Jr. Kings and Phoenix Jr. Coyotes.
Teams will be split into four separate Divisions:

The 2017 WHL Bantam Draft featured over 80 players who were participants in the JRMT, including 17 of 22 first round picks as well as the first 11 players selected overall. 128 alumni from the JRMT have gone on to play in the NHL including Jerome Iginla, Scott and Rob Niedermeyer, Vincent Lecalvier, Eric Staal, Jonathan Toews, Jordan Eberle, and recently St. Albert’s own Colton Parayko and Matthew Benning.
The tournament was renamed in John Reid’s memory in 2004. Reid was a forward with the St. Albert Saints and Sherwood Park Crusaders in the Alberta Junior Hockey League as well as the Alberta Golden Bears and was a positive role model as a hockey and lacrosse coach.
